VaporGenie Vaporizer Review

Vapor Genie Vaporizer Review

by v8vantage on June 8, 2011

Today we are doing a Vapor Genie Vaporizer Review.   This unit is, as of now, the cheapest ‘vaporizer’ on the market at about $50. In actuality it is more of a vaporizer pipe.   I put the word vaporizer in quotes because you aren’t really vaporizing it fully.   That being said, anything is better then the normal combustion method so I felt it was important to write a Vapor Genie review on this product.

There are two models, the ash model, and an exotic hardwood version, I got the normal ash model.

VaporGenie is made in Virginia, by hand believe it or not, and is made out of solid ash which is a type of hardwood that is sanded until a smooth finish is achieved.   The company claims there are no glues or toxic materials used.

There are two specific parts to this unit.   The bottom of the unit is essentially a regular pipe with a screen and bowl.     The top part is where the vaporizing comes in.   Inside of the top sphere portion is a ceramic flame filter which has a ton of small holes.  It heats the air to temperatures that support vaporizing and then passes over your herb.  It is essentially convection.

The actual bowl and screen are both stainless steel, as well as the threaded portion that acts as a sleeve on the bottom.    The actual filter is silicon carbide.

Being that this is a hand held pipe, ergonomics are important.  Surprisingly the pipe feels very comfortable in your hand, and the weight isn’t enough to become a bother.

The Vapor Genie has a lifetime warranty, which is always good to know of course.

The biggest mistake people tend to make, and one that I made as well at first, is touching the flame to the flame filter.  When you do this it leaves soot deposits which results in the holes of the filter being clogged.  You will find this in many Vapor Genie reviews.

Many people will also put an ice cube in their mouth to cool the smoke down.  As ghetto as this is, I tried it just for testing purposes.  While it did work, I would much rather have a real vaporizer then be forced to put an ice cube in my mouth whenever I wanted to vape.

Ok so bottom line here is this is the cheapest vaporizer you can get.  The quality is not good.   The official website even warns you that you will not be getting as clean of a vapor as higher end units with a full ceramic heating element.  If you need something super cheap for stealth reasons and have no other option, then this is ‘ok’.

But realistically, it is worth saving up another $50 and getting the Magic Flight Launch Box instead, because with that extra $50 you are getting a much higher quality unit that is worth the extra coin.  As always, most purchases are dependent on not just the specific person’s budget but also what they are going to be using it for specifically, and how often.  If you are only going to vaporize once a month, then sure this might be a good choice.  But I’m assuming most people aren’t like that.

Using the car comparison I’m going to unfortunately have to go ahead and compare this to the Geo Metro.  You should really take this review and the score into account before you buy Vapor Genie.  If you really can’t afford anything else but still desire a bit healthier of a method but without the quality, then the VaporGenie is for you.
